Independence Matters: Why Buying Organic & Local Is a Revolutionary Act

Independence Matters: Why Buying Organic & Local Is a Revolutionary Act

| By Mari Geier
Every time you shop, you vote for the kind of food system you want. This July, we’re highlighting independent organic brands that prioritize soil health, transparency, and community — because real independence starts with what’s on your plate.

At Nuts ‘n Berries, we believe that every shopping decision is a chance to stand for something bigger. This July, we’re celebrating Independence Matters — a campaign to remind our community that where you shop and what you buy truly makes a difference.

While the big brands dominate shelf space in most stores, we’re proud to partner with The Cornucopia Institute to highlight independent organic brands that prioritize health, transparency, and regenerative farming. These are the farmers and makers who refuse to compromise — and they need your support to keep doing what’s right for people and the planet.

Why Organic Matters
Organic isn’t just a label. It’s a movement to protect soil health, reduce toxic exposure, and support biodiversity. It’s about knowing how your food was grown and choosing products that nourish your body and the earth.  When you shop at Nuts 'n Berries, you can be certain that we work night and day to provide the most authentic and true connections between the farmers that grow and raise our food, the artisans that create products with those ingredients and YOU!

Why Local Matters
When you shop at an independent grocery store like ours, you’re keeping money in your community, reducing environmental impact, and voting for human-scale food systems over corporate control.

We’ve filled our shelves with Cornucopia-vetted brands and stocked up on free copies of the “Why Organic Matters” booklet — come grab yours this month, and if you see a brand on this list that we don’t carry, just ask. We’ll do our best to bring it in!

Because real independence starts with everyday choices — and together, we’re growing something better.
